On  December 2015, the Packaging Trade Fair “Salon VS Pack” in Cognac, France, presented its Innovation prizes. The “Golden Spiri Pack” was awarded to DS Smith for its 100% recyclable packaging designed for Veuve Clicquot champagne.

The Naturally Clicquot packaging won the most prestigious of the three prizes given by the jury for innovative packaging at the 8th annual Salon VS Pack, the trade fair for packaging and technological innovation organised by the Vins et Spiritueux export federation.

This is the third time this year that this highly innovative packaging has received an acknowledgement : it was also recognised for its ecological design at the “Formes de Luxe” Awards 2015 and in the Environment category at the 2015 “Oscars de l’Emballage” Awards, the French packaging industry’s benchmark event.

” We have been working on this project with Veuve Clicquot, within the company’s Naturally collection, since 2012, and this is our third design for the area. I am particularly pleased to accept this reward for our unit at Rochechouart (Haute-Vienne), which designed the packaging” explains Jean-Charles Moras, Key Account Manager for DS Smith Packaging Consumer.

The Naturally Clicquot  packaging is the fruit of three years of research and development, and represents an advance in the field of ecological design. The raw material for making of the packaging is completely recyclable and biodegradable  and comes from grape waste from Veuve Clicquot’s wine-making process. This unique  technique  saved 5.2 tonnes of virgin fibre by using grape residue from the Veuve Clicquot manufacturing process as natural pigments to obtain a unique paper dyed in the mass.
