Metsä Board Magazine has won the B-to-B Overall Design category in the 2014 Folio awards for the issue 1/2014. It is the second time Metsä Board Magazine has won this category at the Ozzies, in what is the largest international competition for magazine publishing.

“We are thrilled this issue of our stakeholder magazine has been recognised,” says Juha Laine Vice President Investor Relations and Communications at Metsä Board. “Working together with printing experts at API Laminates and our design agency Otavamedia we were able to produce something very special to launch a new board, Carta Allura.”

“The real eye-catcher of the printed issue was the cover. Here we used Carta Allura with a combination of deep embossed Fresnel lenses and lamination, registering the printing inks to the surface of the laminated Fresnel lenses to create a unique look,” says Laine. “But the whole design includes an attractive mix of photographs, illustrations and infographics throughout. It all looks superb, both on paper and in the digital version, and we hope provides inspiration for the creation of great packaging.”

In the category, the judges evaluated the entire design of the magazine: sections, departments, features, readability, ease of navigation, use of art and images, and appropriateness of design to the subject.

The awards ceremony took place in New York on 11 December. The Folio Eddies and Ozzies are the only awards that include all magazines: consumer, B-to-B, custom and association. Eddies recognise the best editorial content; Ozzies the best in design. There are different categories according to circulation and type of market; ensuring publications only compete against others of similar size and scope. It is the largest awards competition in magazine publishing, attracting more than 2,000 entries and bestowing more than 140 awards.
